Brighton & Hove Labour Party is recruiting a full-time, fixed-term campaign role to help secure a second term as a Labour majority council at the local elections in May 2027.

This is a hands-on campaigning role for someone who understands that modern political campaigning happens everywhere: on the doorstep, in members’ meetings, through leaflets, on TikTok, Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and in the local media.

We are looking for a friendly, outgoing and highly motivated campaigner who is just as comfortable talking to councillors, MPs, Labour members and residents as they are planning a leaflet, editing a short video, writing sharp copy or producing a graphic that gets our message across clearly.

This is not a back-office role. We need someone who can organise people, create content, understand a political message and get things out quickly.

The right person will have a strong understanding of social media, short-form video, basic graphic design and political messaging. You do not need to be a specialist in every platform or programme, but you do need to be creative, practical and confident in making content that people actually want to watch, read and share.

This role is about helping us tell the story of what Labour is delivering for Brighton & Hove, building the campaign machine we need to win again, and making sure our volunteers feel supported, motivated and part of something worth fighting for.

You will work across our vibrant and diverse city, from Portslade to Saltdean, supporting branches, councillors, candidates and volunteers to campaign effectively all year round; therefore, a driving license is essential.

Key responsibilities

The successful candidate will:

  1. Plan, produce and publish effective campaign content across digital and print channels, including leaflets, graphics, social media posts and short-form video.
  2. Help create platform-first content for TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts, Facebook and other key channels, with a good understanding of what works on each platform.
  3. Work closely with the Labour Group, candidates, branches and campaign teams to turn Labour’s record and priorities into clear, engaging campaign messages.
  4. Shoot and edit short videos, create simple graphics, and help develop visual campaign materials that are sharp, accessible and politically effective.
  5. Write, edit and proofread high-quality copy for social media, leaflets, emails, press materials and campaign literature.
  6. Support branches with planning and delivering leaflet rounds, door-knocking sessions, campaign days and volunteer activity.
  7. Recruit, support and motivate volunteers, helping more members get involved in campaigning and making sure they enjoy doing it.
  8. Help build local campaign capacity by identifying local supporters, endorsers, community voices and influencers.
  9. Develop effective communication systems with branches, members, councillors, candidates, affiliated organisations and other parts of the Labour Party.
  10. Support local fundraising activity and help build relationships with local media.
  11. Work to high professional standards, with accuracy, honesty, attention to detail and a clear understanding of the importance of evidence-based campaigning.
  12. Carry out some evening and weekend work, including meetings, campaign sessions and election activity.

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Strong political judgement and a commitment to Labour values.
  • Experience creating digital content, especially for social media.
  • Confidence producing short-form video, simple graphics and clear campaign materials.
  • Strong writing, copy-editing and proofreading skills.
  • An understanding of how digital and print messaging work together in a political campaign.
  • Confidence working with a wide range of people, from elected representatives to first-time volunteers.
  • A collaborative approach and the ability to build strong working relationships.
  • The ability to work on their own initiative and manage competing priorities.
  • A commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and to the Labour Party’s codes of conduct, mission and values.
  • Due to the travel needed, a driving license will be essential.

This is a brilliant opportunity for someone who wants to be at the centre of a major local election campaign, help shape Labour’s message across the city, and play a key role in keeping Brighton & Hove moving forward under a Labour council.
